Wisdom for Life – Proverbs 28

Proverbs 28: 6-11 & 19-27

  1. Be a good steward of what you are entrusted with.

Those who work their land will have plenty of food. But those who chase dreams will be very poor. Proverbs 28:19

We are called to be good stewards over every area of our lives – finances, relationships, family, friends, children.

Mary was entrusted with the most precious gift in the world, and she was a good steward of her role as Jesus’ mother. (Luke 1:26 -38)

  1. Focus on faithfulness.

A faithful person will be richly blessed. But anyone who wants to get rich will be punished. Proverbs 28:20

Our focus in life should be on how we can faithfully serve God. When we only focus on our own success and gain, we are only focused on the temporary. A focus on faithfulness is eternal.

David was anointed as the next king, and he remained faithful to what God was calling him to in the moment, instead of getting ahead of himself. He was a faithful shepherd who cared for the sheep. (1 Samuel 16)

  1. Have a spirit of generosity.

Those who give to poor people will have all they need. But those who close their eyes to the poor will receive many curses. Proverbs 28: 27

We are called to be generous and serve others. There are so many different ways that we can show generosity and God’s love to others. Whether our generosity is financial, acts of service, time, kindness. We don’t give so we can be blessed, we give so we can bless others.

Jesus saw how a widow gave all she had, and He said she was more generous than the rich people who gave larger amounts. The widow gave everything, and the others gave what they will never miss. Sometimes generosity can be difficult, but when we make sacrifices in our own lives to give to others, we are honouring God. (Mark 12:41)
