THE SELF EXISTENCE GOD – I AM BECAUSE HE IS.

GENESIS 1:1

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

Who created God?

In order for the finite to exist you must first have the infinite.

Differentiate:  That which IS, from That which is BECOMING.

Without ‘being’ somewhere there can be no ‘becoming’.

  1. THE SELF EXISTENCE OF GOD HUMBLES ME

“Why, the nations are but a drop in a bucket, a mere smudge on a window. All the nations add up to simply nothing before him—less than nothing is more like it. A minus.” Isaiah 40:15, 17  MSG

  1. THE SELF EXISTENCE OF GOD GIVES ME LIFE, LIGHT, & HOPE.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.”  John 1:1-4

“Yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.”  1 Corinthians 8:6

“In him we live and move and have our being.”  Acts 17:28

“He is the self-existent, self-sufficient God, from which everything flows and through which everything functions, and for whom everything exists.”  Stephen Lawson

  1. THE SELF EXISTENCE OF GOD CAUSES ME TO WORSHIP.

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun. It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, like a champion rejoicing to run his course. It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is deprived of its warmth.” Psalm 19:1-6

“It appears that all that is ever spoken of in the Scripture as an ultimate end of God’s works is included in that one phrase, the glory of God… In the creature’s knowing, esteeming, loving, rejoicing in, and praising God, the glory of God is both exhibited and acknowledged; his fullness is received and returned. Here is both an emanation and re-emanation.  The refulgence shines upon and into the creature, and is reflected back to the luminary.  The beams of glory come from God, are something of God, and are refunded back again to their original.  So that the whole is of God, and in God, and to God; and he is the beginning, and the middle, and the end.” Jonathan Edwards (18th Century)
